
About the Show
For seven years a certain boy wizard went to a certain Wizard School and conquered evil. This, however, is not his story. This is the story of the Puffs… who just happened to be there too. A tale for anyone who has never been destined to save the world.
Character Breakdown
Puffs is written for a cast of 11 actors, with most playing multiple roles. We will be adhering to the playwright’s character doubling, meaning that we are seeking strong, versatile performers who are comfortable playing a variety of distinct characters. All characters speak with British accents unless otherwise noted.
Wayne Hopkins
A nerdy orphan wizard boy from New Mexico. American accent.
Oliver Rivers
A mathematician wizard from New Jersey. American accent.
Megan Jones
Daughter of the infamous Xavia Jones who thinks she should be in the Snakes house. American accent.
Narrator
The one with all the heavy books.
Cedric
The lead Puff at the magic school. Also plays Mr. Voldy.
Susie Bones
A Puff who lives in fear of death, because her entire family died. Also plays Harry, Colin, Hermeoone #2, Ric Gryff, and Myrtle.
J Finch Fletchley
A flamboyant and happy Puff. Also plays Uncle Dave, Goyle, A Fat Friar, Clumsy Longbottom, Hermeoone #3, Viktor, Mr. Bagman, and Zach Smith.

Sally Perks
She goes to school here and is completely blind throughout half the show. Also plays Hermeoone, Blondo Malfoy, Rowena, Rita Scooter, and Bippy.
Ernie Mac
A very confident and self-obsessed Puff. Also plays A Very Tall Man, Seamus, A Certain Potions Teacher, Professor Turban, Ghost History Teach, Professor Locky, Mr. Nick, Sal, Second Headmaster, and Real Mr. Moody.
Hannah
A shy Puff who gets made fun of by the other houses and does not realize what is happening. Also plays First Headmaster, Professor McG, Professor Sproutty, Xavia Jones, Professor Lanny, Runes Teach, and Ms. Babble.
Leanne
A Puff who grew up as an only child, has never seen other children until now and wants to be friends with everybody. Also plays Ginny, Helga, and Frenchy.
Production Schedule
Auditions
April 16 & 17, 2025
6:30 – 8:30 PM
Auditions are open to ages 14 and up due to the show’s adult content. Auditions will be held by individual appointment – please sign up at the “Audition Sign-ups” link on this page. If you are unable to attend in person, self-tapes can be sent to matt@j-dapa.org by no later than 8:30 PM on April 17th.
Please prepare the sides for the character(s) for which you are auditioning, including any doubled roles. They do not need to be memorized, but you should be familiar with the material. Sides and more detailed requirements can be found in the Audition Packet linked on this page.
Callbacks
Callbacks will be held on April 26, 2025 and will consist of chemistry reads and other character work, conducted in a group setting. If you are called back, you will be required to attend in-person.
Rehearsal & Performance Schedule
Rehearsals will begin with a table read on Friday, May 2, 2025. Beyond this, the schedule will be determined based on availability but will likely consist of 2-3 rehearsals per week.
Tech Rehearsals (mandatory): July 26 – 30, 2025
Performances: July 31 – August 2, 2025 @ 7:00 PM; August 2, 2025 @ 2:00 PM.
