  • Acro students must also take a jazz, ballet, or lyrical class.
  • Acro classes will have a try-out date to ensure students are placed at the appropriate level. More information will follow.
  • We are excited to offer new peewee classes this year! Please review the class descriptions below to determine which is right for your child.

Class Descriptions

Most of our classes are open to anyone who meets the minimum age requirement! Class descriptions, as well as additional requirements for our Intermediate and Advanced classes (taught by Miss Juliana) are detailed below. Please note that we do not use years of experience alone to advance students to higher-level classes as each student learns differently. If you have been pre-approved by our staff to take any classes with prerequisites, you will already be able to register in our Parent Portal. Otherwise, please contact info@j-dapa.org to set up an audition or with any additional questions.

Our 11+ beginner/intermediate classes in jazz, tap, and lyrical are great options for students who are looking to move up to our higher-level classes in the future, or to take alongside other classes to boost technique. None of our classes (with the exception of Pre-Peewee and Peewee) have upper age limits, so students who meet the age requirement for a higher-level class but do not have the required dance experience should register for the beginner or beginner/intermediate option.

We will be scheduling a try out date so that students are placed in the appropriate level for acro. Details to follow.

Intermediate Acro

To register for this class, students MUST be able to independently perform the following prerequisite skills:

  • Backbend from standing
  • Cartwheel (at least one side without a spot)
  • Roundoff
  • Somersault/forward roll
  • Kick up into a handstand

Students without these skills on the first day of class will be asked to join Beginner Acro regardless of years of experience – NO EXCEPTIONS.

All acro students must be enrolled in a jazz, ballet, or lyrical class. Acro classes do not perform in the Winter recital.

Acting classes will introduce students to the techniques used by actors who play musical and straight play theater scenes. Basic acting techniques will be taught through theater games as well as skits. Students will be given lessons in freeing the body of nervous tension, projection, articulation as well as developing confidence, presence, and emotional expression.

Theater classes have been proven to enhance a child’s Confidence, Public Speaking, Teamwork, Poise, Conversation, Social skills, and more!

Ballet is the foundation for many forms of dance. Ballet classes help people of all ages and genders work on posture, strength, flexibility, musicality, fitness and much more. During class, students will work on body alignment, barre and center work, and across the floor combinations. Ballet is a fantastic class to take in conjunction with other dance classes if you are looking to improve your technique.

Our Intermediate Ballet class is open to students with 3+ years of lyrical or ballet experience.

Hip hop is a fun, high energy dance style that encompasses a wide range of street styles such as breaking, locking, and popping, set to upbeat, appropriate, hip hop music.  Through this class, dancers develop musicality, creativity and coordination. Dancers are encouraged to take jazz class in addition to hip hop.

This class is offered by invitation and audition only. Students enrolled in this class must have displayed a focused work ethic in the previous dance session, have had good attendance and 3+ years of dance experience.

Having 3 years dance experience does not automatically mean students are ready for this class. Email info@j-dapa.org if your child is interested in this class to see if they qualify and/or set up an audition time.

One of the most popular styles of dance! Jazz is an energetic and fun class set to upbeat music. A typical jazz class begins with a center warm up that strengthens and stretches the body. Students will then work on across the floor and/or center work focusing on turns, leaps, isolations and footwork.

Intermediate Jazz

This class will return in January. Students previously enrolled in Miss Brieanna’s Tuesday Int. Jazz should take Miss Juliana’s beginner/intermediate class for the fall session.

Advanced Jazz

For students with 5+ years jazz experience.

Students in this class must be able to pick up fast paced choreography and be able to demonstrate the five jazz positions and basic jazz movements such as pas de bourre, jete, chaine, battement etc.

Lyrical classes provide dancers with an outlet to tell the story of a song through their movements.  This style of dance combines the technique of ballet, jazz and modern dance. Classes focus on turns, leaps, flexibility, creative expression and musicality.

Intermediate Lyrical

This class will return in January. Students previously enrolled in Miss Brieanna’s Tuesday Int. Lyrical should take Miss Juliana’s beginner/intermediate class for the fall session.

Advanced Lyrical

For students with 5+ years of lyrical experience.

Students must be able to demonstrate 5 ballet positions, perform a pirouette on the right and left side and know/perform basic dance terms such as jete, pas de bourre, balance’, arabesque, pique turns etc.

Age requirements listed for each of these classes must be met by September 1st, 2026.

Pre-Peewee Combo

In this class, dancers will be introduced to a variety of dance styles such as jazz, tap, ballet, hip hop and acrobatics. Students will begin to learn basic dance technique while participating in creative movement and using their imagination. This is a great class to help our youngest dancers improve their gross motor skills and self confidence.

Peewee Combo I and II

In this class, dancers will be introduced to a variety of dance styles including jazz, tap, ballet, hip hop and acrobatics. The purpose of this introductory class is to help students develop motor skills through a variety of movements. This combo class focuses on learning basic dance vocabulary, improving flexibility, balance and learning choreography helping to boost dancers’ confidence both on and off the stage.

We are excited to offer more classes for our peewee dancers this year – if your child is 4 but has never taken dance before we recommend enrolling them in our pre-peewee class. For students who are age 5 and have taken our peewee class in the past, we recommend registering for our Peewee Combo II class; otherwise, they should enroll in Peewee Combo I.

This class is dedicated to stretching and strengthening the body to be able to correctly execute dance movements.  Strong muscles are vital to protecting a dancer’s body and improving dance skills. Students will work on improving their jazz, lyrical and ballet technique through various center and across the floor exercises. This class offers an opportunity for dancers to focus on improving specific skills so that they are able to improve their turns and leaps. This class is highly recommended for all intermediate dancers and any dancer hoping to advance into intermediate classes.

This class does not perform in our Winter recital.

Tap class gives the student a unique opportunity to transform into a percussive musician through the use of metal plates on the toe and heels of the dancer’s shoes. Tap focuses on creating rhythms and sounds which enhances a dancer’s ability to count music, feel the rhythm and increase their balance and coordination across dance genres.

Intermediate Tap

This class will return in January. Students previously enrolled in Miss Brieanna’s Tuesday Int. Tap should take Miss Juliana’s beginner/intermediate class for the fall session.

Advanced Tap

For students with 5+ years of tap experience.

Students must be able to independently execute steps such as waltz clog, single, double and triple time steps, maxifords, paradiddles, draw backs, buffalos etc.

Voice class provides students with the basic foundations of singing technique along with an introduction to vocal performance, repertoire, and appreciation. Vocal lessons help you, as a singer, to achieve a finer grasp of a musical style, performance techniques, focus, proper articulation, and delivery. You will learn how to use proper breath support, increase vocal range, sing with ease and clarity and learn to project your voice.
