Class Descriptions & Prerequisites

In general, our beginner/intermediate classes that are listed for ages 11+ (taught by Miss Jen) are meant for students with more than 3 years’ experience in the respective style of dance. Students who are over the age of 11 but newer to dance should join our beginner-level classes that are listed for ages 7+. Teachers will notify students when they believe they are ready to move into an intermediate or advanced level class. Any student who believes they are ready to move into a more advanced level class may request an audition by emailing info@j-dapa.org. During the audition, students will be tested on dance terminology and asked to learn and perform a short combination with their parent present.

More details about each class type, as well as prerequisites for intermediate and advanced classes, are available below. If you are interested in an upper-level class, or unsure what class is the best fit for your child’s age and/or ability level, please contact us at info@j-dapa.org and we will work together to find the best fit for your student.

Basic acting techniques will be taught through theater games as well as skits. Students will be given lessons in freeing the body of nervous tension, projection, articulation as well as developing confidence, presence, and emotional expressiveness. Theater classes have been proven to enhance a child’s confidence, public speaking, teamwork, poise, conversation, social skills, and more!

Acting classes perform in a Showcase at our studio that is separate from our normal recitals.
