A COVID-19 Update
Our J-DAPA team has made every effort to come up with a plan to try and safely finish out our 2019-2020 dance year. We were hoping to have a few weeks of free review classes, followed by an outdoor recital but ran into some liability issues. We tried to have a recital in a church hall but again, were faced with more liability issues. We even considered live streaming the recital on YouTube, but we were not able to find a location to record the dances, while keeping our students at a safe distance from each other. Each potential plan that we have come up with leads us to a road block every time.
After careful consideration, I have decided to hold off on scheduling a make-up recital until Johnston schools allow all regular indoor after school activities. With students going back to school we feel it would be best to not subject them to more chances of being exposed to COVID-19.
It breaks my heart that our students haven’t had the chance to wear their costumes and perform the routines that they worked so hard on, but the safety of our J-DAPA family is, and always will be our main concern. Rest assured, we will keep trying to make this happen as soon as possible.
As for the 2020-2021 dance year, we are not able to have a registration at this time. We have not received much interest in continuing virtual dance classes, so unfortunately, we will have to postpone J-DAPA’s dance season until we have a new location, and it is safe to resume classes.
If anyone has any connections or leads to a space that we could rent for little to no cost, please let us know. Even with the incredible amount of support and donations that we have received during these very difficult times, J-DAPA is struggling to stay afloat. We are continuously looking for grants for 501c3 non-profits and are also open to any ideas for fundraising – if you have any suggestions please send them our way!
Please do not lose hope that J-DAPA will return. Even during these grueling times, our goal remains true: we WILL find a way to bring together our community and spread love and joy through our passion for the arts and theatre.
Thank you for your love, support, and understanding,
Executive Director of J-DAPA
